Djokovic Won Australian Open With 3cm Tear In Hamstring

According to Australian Open tournament head Craig Tiley, Novak Djokovic won his 10th title Sunday playing with a 3cm tear in his left hamstring.

“I think a lot of the challenges around Novak is he gets a bad rap but at the end of the day, I don’t think anyone can question his athleticism,” Tiley said on SEN.

“I did see he had a three centimeter tear in his hammy,” he said. Later adding that he saw the scan. “Absolutely. The doctors are going to tell you the truth.

“I think there was a lot of speculation on whether it was true or not.

“It’s hard to believe that someone can do what they do with those types of injuries, but he’s remarkable.”

As the tournament went on, Djokovic’s torn hamstring appeared to be less of an issue. And by the last three rounds, he looked fully healed.

“The good thing about the Grand Slam here is that you have a day between the matches, so it allowed me to have more time than normally on some other tournaments to recover, to try to do all the treatments in order to get myself in somewhat of a good state and condition to play and eventually win,” Djokovic said Sunday.

“From fourth round onwards, I feel the leg was not bothering me as much. I felt my movement was much better. I played some of my best tennis honestly in Australian Open. The fourth round, quarterfinal, semifinals, just really comfortable on the court, hitting the ball great.”

Zed,

zed Says:

WB, Skeezer and Giles should buy in bulk and then apply liberally given what is coming in 2023.

So much happiness ahead :)

Wog Boy Says:

Zed,
You forgot my and Nole’s “komšija” (neighbour) Fred Flintstone.

zed Says:

You’re right! I had forgotten him, I think because he’s been a bit quiet for a while, I wonder why?

chrisford1 Says:

I’m starting the unfounded rumor that Djokovic got an injection of surgical grade superglue and Dacron nanomesh to close the tear.

The surgery required Djokovic’s hamstring to be as weak and as relaxed as possible, so slices of bread were placed on Djokovic during the tear mending operation.

I hope we hear back from Fred. Last I knew, he had stopped posting while he tried to figure out how to use a new name people wouldn’t make as much fun about.

xyz and Bog Boy.. Too much gloating already. 2 ???? at work!

Here’s an apt quote from a wise man (Leonardo da Vinci):

“There are three classes of people: those who see, those who see when they are shown, those who do not see.”

Leonardo was right; even in the rather small sample of comments on this article, we have examples of all three categories.

Injuries suck, so I doubt there’s anything to gain lying about them

Regarding anything else it’s early in the year, 1 grand slam played, too early to draw any conclusions regarding anything else, let’s see

Dave Says:

Good point Allison. 2012 looked like Djokovic would continue all of the momentum of 2011 and he never won another major after winning in Australia. 2013 was the same. 2020 was also the same. Nothing happens until it happens. I know on paper can be much different than reality. But I was thinking about each of the 3 majors left this year. French Open Nadal will be favoured to win. Wimbledon, Djokovic will be favoured to win. Last time Rafa and Nole played at Wimbledon it went 5 and could have gone either way. US Open, Rafa has won it more times than Novak. The last time they played Rafa won in 4 sets. I realize Nole hasn’t lost a set on hardcourts against Rafa since then. But I’m just focusing on their history at the majors both individually and against each other. On Paper if both are healthy, it could be a very interesting year. It’s easy for everyone to be overconfident after a big win. But no one knows how reality will play out in the future. So I’m not going to be just assuming that Nole will automatically win the most majors. He’s definitely the favourite. But nothing happens until it happens.

Dave please spell my name right, it only has one L, anyway I’ve always said since I started posting here, that I don’t care one way or the other regarding GOAT debate, and people can look back over the archives, I’ve always believed in Greats instead, but that’s just me and my opinion, if others want to, I’m happy anoint Novak and says he’s GOAT that’s fine by me, I’m happy with my favorites achievements, yes I’ve had disagreements with Novak fans, which was more about me, but I think the dead horse has been flogged now, things change, PEACE

Wog Boy Says:

Who would have thought that this 4 years old boy will become the GOAT one day, somewhere in the high mountains in Serbia:

AWW I can’t believe how cute that video is of Novak ❤️

Dave Says:

I actually went back and noticed that I had spelled your name wrong before you said anything. Sorry about that.

Alison hodge Says:

Thanks Dave

Okiegal Says:

Regarding the GOAT debate……Roger fans have their goat, Novak fans have their goat, Rafa fans have their goat. I doubt that there’s anything that another fan base can say about who the “real” goat is, that’s going to change anyone’s mind. To each his own. End of story! Rafa Nadal is my GOAT!
VAMOS!!
