In ‘s-Hertogenbosch at rainy Libema Open in finals action home hope and No. 6 seed Tallon Griekspoor edged Australia’s Jordan Thompson 6-7(4-7), 7-6(7-3), 6-3 to claim his second career ATP title.

“In finals it’s so tough to play your best tennis,” Griekspoor said. “I had so many nerves today, I felt so tight today. I wanted it so badly. He was playing great. I had to try and focus on my own game and try and hang in there.

“Somehow I won the second set tiebreak and got it my way in the third, so no words for this one.”

The match nearly didn’t finish due to earlier rain and the women’s final, but after will over two hours, the home hope Griekspoor rallied for his second title of the season.

The 26-year-old Griekspoor finished with nine aces and never faced a break point in the final set, breaking the Australian to go up 4-2 in the third.

Griekspoor and Thompson have now split two tour-level meetings. Thompson was eyeing his 1st career title in his 2nd career final after finishing runner-up at this same event in 2019.
