AUGUSTA, Ga. -- It was another painful finish for two-time major championship winner Justin Thomas at the Masters on Friday.

A year after Thomas carded bogeys on three of the last four holes to miss the cut at the Masters by 1 stroke, which left him standing under an umbrella in the rain with his arms crossed in disbelief, he had an even more forgettable finish in the second round at Augusta National Golf Club on Friday.

After posting an even-par 72 in the first round, Thomas was in good shape to make the cut after 14 holes in the second round. He picked up a birdie on the par-5 13th hole to move to even par, but then went 7 over on the final four holes to miss the cut by 1 stroke.

His card on the last four holes: double bogey, double bogey, bogey and double bogey.

Thomas wasn't the only big name who won't be around for the weekend at the 88th Masters. Among the other notable players who missed the cut: reigning U.S. Open winner Wyndham Clark (7 over), Justin Rose (7 over), 2023 FedEx Cup champion Viktor Hovland (8 over), reigning Open Championship winner Brian Harman (9 over), Sam Burns (9 over), 2015 Masters champion Jordan Spieth (9 over), two-time green jacket winner Bubba Watson (10 over) and 2020 Masters champion Dustin Johnson (13 over).

No finish Friday was as stunning as Thomas' final four holes. On the par-5 15th, his sweeping second shot rolled into the pond in front of the green. After a penalty stroke, Thomas pitched his ball over the green. His putt went 6 feet past the hole, and he missed the bogey putt coming back. He was 2 over after carding a double-bogey.

On the par-3 16th, Thomas hit his tee shot over the green and into a back bunker. He chipped his ball 44 feet past the hole and missed a 4-foot putt for bogey. He was 4 over.

Then Thomas pushed his tee shot on the par-4 17th hole to the right, and his second shot out of pine straw went over the green. His 6-footer for par lipped out of the hole. A bogey dropped him to 5 over with one hole to play.

On the 18th hole, Thomas pulled his drive into the trees down the left side of the fairway. He punched out and pulled his approach shot near the gallery on the left. He chipped to 9 feet and needed two putts for a double bogey.

It was another disappointing finish in a major championship for Thomas, who parted ways with caddie Jim "Bones" Mackay last week. Thomas missed the cut in four of the past five majors with a combined score of 48 over. He tied for 65th in last year's PGA Championship at Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, New York.

Spieth, who had six top-five finishes in his 10 previous starts at Augusta National Golf Club, made a quadruple-bogey 9 on the par-5 15th in the first round. It was the third time he'd made a quadruple bogey in a major -- and all three of them came at the Masters, according to ESPN Stats & Information. Spieth carded a 9 on No. 15 in the first round in 2017.

Harman, who won by 6 strokes to capture his first major championship in The Open at Royal Liverpool Golf Club in Hoylake, England, on July 20, had a forgettable second nine in the first round that concluded at Augusta National on Friday. Harman was 2 under on the front but 11 over on the second nine. Harman made a double bogey on the 13th, triple bogey on the 16th and doubles on Nos. 17 and 18.

He rallied to post an even-par 72 for the second round but missed the cut by 3.
