British duo Wet Leg have won the 2023 Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Performance with their song “Chaise Longue.” They won over Arctic Monkeys (“There’d Better Be a Mirrorball”), Big Thief (“Certainty”), Florence and the Machine (“King”), and Yeah Yeah Yeahs (“Spitting Off the Edge of the World”).

Rhian Teasdale and Hester Chambers are Wet Leg. They dropped their self-titled debut last April. Most of the album was recorded and produced by Speedy Wunderground’s Dan Carey in London in April 2021, before Wet Leg had ever played live. “Chaise Longue” was produced by Jon McMullen. The band is up for the Best New Artist trophy this evening.

Three of the five nominees have also been nominated for Grammy Awards in other categories. Big Thief, Wet Leg, and Yeah Yeah Yeahs also got nominated for Best Alternative Music Album, with Wet Leg ultimately taking home the trophy.
