With her win today at the 2023 Grammys, Viola Davis has achieved EGOT status. The decorated actress’ Grammy for Best Audio Book, Narration, and Storytelling Recording follows her Tony wins in 2001 (King Hedley II) and 2010 (Fences), her 2015 Emmy (How to Get Away With Murder), and Oscar in 2017 (Fences). For her reading of her memoir Finding Me, Davis won the Grammy today over Questlove, Mel Brooks, Jamie Foxx, and Lin-Manuel Miranda. Read her full acceptance speech below.

Davis is the 18th person to achieve the EGOT. Jennifer Hudson earned the honor last year with a Tony Award for A Strange Loop. Her fellow EGOT winners include John Legend, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Richard Rodgers, Whoopi Goldberg, Audrey Hepburn, and Rita Moreno.

All of Davis’ fellow nominees are former Grammy winners. Mel Brooks completed his EGOT in 2001. Lin-Manuel Miranda is an Oscar away from achieving the honor, while Questlove and Jamie Foxx have yet to win Emmys or Tonys.

Viola Davis:

Oh, my god.

I wrote this book to honor the six-year-old Viola. To honor her, her life, her joy, her trauma, everything. It has just been such a journey. I just EGOT!

Thank you, Harper Collins, Lavaille Lavette, you epitomize sister friend. And really, to everybody who was part of my story. And the best chapter yet, my loves: Julius, Genesis. You are my life, My joy. you are the best chapter in this book. Thank you.
